Buildings require the use of tangible, concrete materials; projections are formed by emitted and scattered lights; voices can be heard and traced in a voided space. I have always believed that architecture is not merely a man-built physical structure on the ground, but rather an ambiance which encourages us to respond to and interact with, that may exist in various different forms.

in Lieu of Echoes is an ongoing experimental architectural design project that aims to integrate echolocation-based interaction with the YURT virtual reality system at Brown University, to formulate a sensual-materiality experience, that could potentially open a new field in architecture and interactive structure. This project explores the possibility of integrating remote user interaction and location notation, with parametrically created ambient sound to create a virtual interior architecture.
