CONTAIN, PERTAIN, SUSTAIN
unbox 2017 : SHIPPING CONTAINER ARCHITECTURE CONTEST
| Reconsign | aims to present an interesting and riotous anecdote to the world’s current shipping container waste and recycling issue, without dismissing these container’s original purpose and meaning.
The project sets in Park Josefwiese in Zurich, a.k.a. the world’s most sustainable city, adjacent to the already popular Im Viadukt repurposed viaduct shopping street and the Fernwärme waste incineration power plant. It is easily accessible by bikes and public transportation and cars, altogether making it an ideal site for promoting sustainability to a wide range of populations. The design combines a mini post-office, cafe, and a pavilion-style gallery into an interesting space for both tourists and locals to interact in and around. The gallery can be used for promoting any sustain-related project / events, while the post office will have postcards and souvenirs available to visitors interested in advocating for the concept beyond the local community.
The project limit of 4 shipping container of given sizes was given by the Volume Zero Team as part of their UNBOX2017 Competition Prompt. The project won honorable mention (top 50) award offered by team Volume Zero.
